    • Hello,

I’m a new phpList user and very happy with it. I have a suggestion and a question.

I found the site navigation here a little confusing when trying to get to the forums. Seems there are others seeking the forums as well that end up posting requests in the User Talk group.

Perhaps the Users menu could be tweaked to something like:
      Users
      > Users Home
      > User News / Announcements (User Blogs)
      > User General Talk
      > User Forums
      > User Paid Support

Regarding the forums, does it require a separate registration? Can I avoid creating another account?

      Regards,
      J

      • You seem to have come via the community side of the phplist site rather then phpList.com which has a link to the forums. I’m sure it was a lot more obvious previously, but the link to the forums is currently down at the bottom. It could be more obvious I agree.
Yes, you need a separate registration but there is no reason why you cannot use the same details you used here to register for the forum. You raise a good point about extending the User Community drop down menu. I’ll raise this with Gingerling if she does not pick your comments up here.

        • Hi guys, I agree it’s a little imperfect at the moment; there are a lot of discussions going on which will affect all of the phpList websites, I think more decisions will be made after then.

Part of the issue is that we need people to understand clearly what things they can/must do – and we have spent a lot of time on the instructions under the user home page etc. This includes instructions on how to make a good forum post, for example.

However, we still get people emailing support requests, putting support requests in the bug tracker, on facebook, twitter etc and here too. I guess that’s just life lol 🙂 I will have a look at the menu suggestions above when I get back from fosdem 🙂

          • Actually Anna, if you look at the phplist.com home page, the link to the forums has all but disappeared since the update/change to Community Exchange template. So that could be the start of the problem right there?

            • Thanks for the discussion, Dragonrider and Anna.

I arrived at phplist.com searching for help in the forums and clicked on the “Community” link in the navigation because I associate user forums with community.

It only just dawned on me that this is in fact the “developers community” (I missed seeing the title popup “Join the phpList developers community”). Also, I might have assumed Support = Paid Support but I can’t say for sure.

So, I think you’re bang on, Dragonrider. If somewhere on the homepage there was a menu/submenu link to the forums, it would be very helpful and you might find yourselves ushering people less often.

I now understand what you meant by “community side” (the “user community”) and why separate registrations are required 🙂
